The Northern California chapter of WFWP held its 15th annual Benefit for the Schools of Africa on Saturday, October 7th at a beautiful home in the hills of Oakland, CA. About 40 people gathered for an afternoon of heartfelt sharing, African drumming, and wonderful food. Our main speaker, Folarinda Harrison, shared her experience growing up in Ghana. She spoke about African children who learn to make a fire, prepare meals, and care for their families by age 7. Those children are so much more mature than children who grow up in an affluent society. Mrs. Harrison’s deep and warm heart helped us feel closer to the African people. We also enjoyed the wonderful drumming of master drummer Pope Flyne, who is also originally from Ghana. The event included a silent auction of donated items and a raffle.
