WFWP NJ, HerStory Award
We held our 4th Annual HerStory Awards in Elizabeth, New Jersey, as part of the PSWM Alliance’s March initiative recognizing Women’s History Month.
Dr. Katarina Connery, President of WFWP, opened the program by sharing the heart and purpose behind the HerStory Awards. She highlighted the inspiring story of WFWP’s founder, a woman who faced significant hardships early in life yet developed a deep devotion to serving God and humanity. Dr. Connery also spoke about Mother Han’s current unjust circumstances, emphasizing that her heart and leadership remain steadfast in embracing humanity as one global family. The HerStory Awardees reflect a similar spirit of compassion, resilience, and commitment to service.
The Mayor of Elizabeth, J. Christian Bollwage, offered congratulatory remarks to the award recipients, recognizing their achievements and contributions in honor of Women’s History Month.
Hon. Annette Quijano, Assemblywoman for New Jersey’s 20th District, shared an emotional testimony about her parents’ dedication to ensuring she received a strong education. Despite her father being a farmer and her mother a seamstress—and despite discouragement from school counselors who advised her not to aim too high—she held firmly to her parents’ belief that she could achieve anything she set her mind to. With their encouragement and support, she pursued her dreams and now serves her community in numerous meaningful ways.
