WFWP Latino and Local Chapters Unite for The Gambia Project A Collaborative Effort to Support Global Development
Written by: Concha Egea
Earlier this June, the WFWP Latino Chapter, in collaboration with the Maryland and Washington, DC Chapters, successfully hosted a benefit event in support of The Gambia Project—an initiative that honors nearly 30 years of service and development work led by longtime WFWP member Beverly Berndt.
This impactful event was organized in partnership with two inspiring, women-led organizations:
El Poder de Ser Mujer (The Power of Being a Woman), founded by Sagrario Ortiz, which empowers Latina women to become entrepreneurs
Family Life, a mentoring and consulting organization led by Sonia Reyes, which supports women through coaching, education, and leadership development
Together, we joined forces for a meaningful purpose: to uplift lives in The Gambia through sustained support and community empowerment. Approximately 40 participants attended the benefit, raising an impressive $2,800 for The Gambia Project. The event was not only a fundraising success but also a celebration of solidarity, leadership, and shared commitment to global peace and development.
This collaboration showcased the strength of our diverse WFWP network, with:
The Latino Chapter led by Concha Marchitelli
The Maryland Chapter led by Andrea Rissanen
The DC Chapter led by Elizabeth Aihe
We are deeply grateful for everyone who contributed to this effort and look forward to continuing these valuable partnerships that bring lasting, positive change to communities near and far.
