WFWP DC- Autumn Health Fair

Written by: Elizabeth Aihe

The Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) DC Chapter partnered with five organizations to host the Autumn Health Fair on Saturday, October 18. This year’s fair generated heightened interest—five new vendors expressed a desire to participate; however, due to the government shutdown, only three were able to join. This brought the total number of participating organizations to six: MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, the American Lung Cancer Research Foundation, Infinite Legacy, WFWP-USA, the Metropolitan Police Department’s Community Officers, and the Washington DC Family Church.

The Fair focused on preventative health measures, with special emphasis on raising awareness about kidney and pancreas transplants and lung cancer screenings. Blood pressure checks were also offered by nurse practitioner Ms. Tekwe.

Unlike the spring and summer Health Fairs, which drew mostly older attendees, this event welcomed a notable number of young adults. Ms. Elizabeth Aihe, Chairwoman of the WFWP DC Chapter, shared, “There is hope for the future as we continue to collaborate with many organizations to offer services to our local community.”

One elderly woman who stopped by the WFWP booth expressed deep appreciation, saying she felt a sense of belonging and wished to stay connected, as she often feels lonely at home. She was touched by the kindness of organizers and volunteers, who made her feel like family. Ms. Aihe exchanged contact information with her and encouraged her to call whenever she felt lonely or needed someone to talk to.All attendees received a bag of fruit and a bottle of water.

The Health Fair Committee Team and partnering organizations extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and hope for more people to attend future events.
