Bridging Generations: A Celebration of Unity and Grandparents

Written by : Mika Deshotel

This month, the Family Church of CT hosted another heartwarming Intergenerational Service, celebrating the theme “Unity within Diversity” with a special focus on honoring our grandparents. The service was designed to inspire connection, understanding, and mutual respect between generations—and it truly delivered.

The highlight of the morning was our Bridge of Peace ceremony. Three pairs, each representing a grandparent and grandchild, crossed a symbolic bridge together. The pairs paused on stage, sharing thoughtful responses to questions about supporting one another, learning from each other, and reconciling through challenges. Laughter, tender smiles, and even a few tears filled the room as these moments of dialogue unfolded.

It was a powerful, tangible reminder that unity doesn’t mean uniformity. True connection comes from embracing differences, honoring experience, and celebrating the wisdom and energy each generation brings. As our youngest members held hands with our elders, the congregation witnessed a living bridge of love, understanding, and shared humanity.

The service closed with a renewed sense of hope and commitment: that our community can continue to be a space where generations meet, listen, and grow together, hand in hand.
