WFWP Hawaii Spreads Love to Veterans

In a heartwarming initiative to spread love and gratitude, WFWP-Hawaii along with many partner organizations came together to participate in the "Valentines for our Veterans" Holiday Card making and gift donation project. Not only did they create beautiful cards but also collaborated with local schools, inviting Kapolei High School and Kapolei Middle Schools to join in this meaningful endeavor.

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, a Holiday Card Making activity took place at the Hawaiian Mission Academy Ka Lama Ike, Honolulu, Hawai'i. Additional cards were crafted at Kapolei High & Middle schools as well as in the homes of some participants. A total of 120 Valentine's Day cards were created and sent to the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Another 30 cards from Kapolei Middle School were sent to Tripler Hospital on O’ahu, while the remaining were distributed to other veteran nursing homes.

On February 3, 2024, a heartwarming event unfolded from 1:00-3:00 pm at the AMVETS West Oʻahu Veterans Center. Dedicated individuals from WFWP-HI, ACLC, and Kapolei High & Middle schools personally delivered the holiday cards and gifts to Mrs. Doris Edwards and Marine Chaplain Octavia Sanders. The team also participated in assembling and packaging baskets filled with signed valentines from various contributors, including Ladies Auxiliary members, Girl Scouts from Kapilina Beach Homes, and Mililani High School.

The initiative extended beyond the immediate organizations involved, fostering collaboration with other communities, church groups, and business organizations such as the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Marie-Francoise (Mimi) Mitchell, Mrs. Yuriko Harding, and other dedicated individuals attended the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Meeting on January 20, 2024, further strengthening community bonds.

The "Valentines for our Veterans" project not only exemplifies the spirit of love and altruism but also serves as a testament to the revitalizing impact of our founders, Mother Moon, spirit during times of confusion and despair. Through collaboration and outreach, the initiative has created a snowball effect, bringing joy and happiness to veterans and communities alike. As WFWP continues to engage with diverse groups, the ripple effect of this heartfelt endeavor promises to sow the seeds of positive change in the nation.
