President’s Corner: A Love that Embraces the World

I am always thinking of my children.

No matter where I am or what I’m doing, they’re always there in the back of mind.

I worry about them all the time and I feel their pain as if it were my own.

“As the Mother of one family under God, I feel the pain of each person as my own pain.” - Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Founder, WFWP

Over the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to care for the children of one of my closest friends as she healed from major surgery. It was an interesting experience to leave my own children at home with their awesome Dad, and fully invest a few days in caring for someone else’s children. Knowing what my friend was going through, I tried to go into the weekend with a clear intention: love these children like they were my own.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to take care of a little one, so it was a humble reminder of what is required to care for such a young child. As I was changing this little one's diaper I couldn’t help thinking about how this is my dear friend’s baby,  how much she loves her, and how much she wishes she could be the one changing her diaper. Suddenly I was connected to a much deeper source of love and energy, one that went beyond my own family. I realized how much our Heavenly Parent feels this way about each and everyone of us. And although it sounds silly, I cried while changing her diaper. But more than that, I found myself more energized to take on the day with all of her children.

“We all dimly remember our mother’s warm touch. This is the very touch with which I long to embrace all of humankind as a mother of the universe and a mother of peace.” - Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Founder, WFWP

My love may not be as big and wide as Mother Moon describes it, but moments like this reveal to me just how spectacular the love of a mother is. If we choose to use it wisely, we have the capacity to embrace those who are outside of our family with the heart of a mother. And perhaps if we work hard enough at it, we can have the capacity to embrace the world’s children as our own. If we had more women like this leading the way, don’t you think the world might look a little different?

That’s why I'm so grateful for Mother Moon’s example and for women like you who are doing their best to become Mothers of Peace.
