On a blustery and rainy day in early May, a group of bright young ladies set out to deliver bags filled with homemade cards and goodies to frontline workers at the Trinitas Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. WFWP Girls, an initiative that was launched by the WFWP Elizabeth chapter three years ago with the vision of spreading peace by living through the logic of love, had a strong desire to offer their support and bring joy to the healthcare workers who are fighting tirelessly to defeat the COVID-19 virus day in and day out.

After deciding to create individual care bags that they dubbed “Bags of Love”, the project took off rather quickly, and in just a few days the girls had made more than 60 inspiring cards filled with messages of gratitude. In addition to a handmade card, each goodie bag also included chocolates, lip balm and a bottle of water. The bags were personally delivered on May 8th, 2020, in fitting recognition and celebration of Nurses’ Week.

The WFWP Girls members, ranging in age from 5 to 14 years old, worked hard for three days to create the beautiful THANK YOU cards for the frontliners. Some boys were also inspired to join and helped with the project. The colorful cards were filled with their sincere hearts and brought smiles to the hardworking first responders.

The project was coordinated by Christine Rapada, the chairwoman of WFWP Elizabeth, with the help of WFWP Girls. She contacted Eileen Hackett of the Trinitas Center of Regional Education, who in turn facilitated the meeting with first responders, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), who happened to all be women. She also assisted with the distribution of the donations to doctors and nurses of the Trinitas Medical Center.

WFWP Girls additionally created some posters to the delight of the EMTs, who promised that they would display them in their office to be reminded of the kindness and thoughtfulness of the children towards our modern heroes and heroines.

All in all, it was a wonderful day and fulfilling project. The girls felt a sense of joy and pride by helping and serving others. They want to continue doing this project and spread more cheer to other hospitals in the state. The WFWP mantra is “Living by the Logic of Love” and this project speaks of their deep love and concern for the frontliners.

We have initiated a fundraising campaign to generate additional funds so they can express more love and gratitude to our brave men and women who are risking their lives every day to save others. The current goal is to raise $500 by May 25th for the purpose of creating more Bags of Love filled with healthy snacks, water and beautiful handmade cards of appreciation by the girls.
