transforming Peacebuilding

Peacebuilding

Throughout history, many women have made a tremendous positive impact on the individual, family, community, national, and international levels. Women play an essential role in leading their families, strengthening communities and building a peaceful, positive and sustainable world, sometimes even in the toughest times. At WFWP, we believe that women’s unique qualities of compassion and empathy are essential for building a world of genuine and sustainable peace.

The United Nations also recognizes women’s essential role in the prevention of conflicts and ensuring peaceful solutions after conflicts [1]. As a strong believer in women being an agent of peacebuilding and sustainable development, WFWP USA provides an opportunity for women to become a catalyst of change. Through various local and national activities, WFWP creates a platform for women to become true mothers, sisters, and friends, beyond religion, race, culture, and nationality.

Building a Network of Women Peace Leaders

As an organization which recognizes women as another half of the world, WFWP USA creates a platform for women from all walks of life to enhance their leadership roles and make a difference. The Global Women’s Peace Network (GWPN), officially launched in 2012, brings together leaders, organizations and governments to solve pressing issues and secure an environment for equitable human development. So far, the GWPN has been launched in three regions in the USA, in the Northeast, West, and Southwest and is in the process of being launched in the Midwest and Southeast before the end of 2019.

WFWP USA believes that having a strong network of sisterhood is important to create a culture of heart in our families, community, and the world. Anyone can connect to this network of like-minded women to support and encourage each other. Visit wfwp.us/becomeafriend to Become a Friend of WFWP today. Friends of WFWP have access to the bi-monthly newsletter and also receive one free webinar invitation.

Global Friends is a brand-new initiative of WFWP USA. Global Friends include organizations, companies, movements, shows, and trailblazing personalities who believe in and adhere to core peace tenets and use their outlet to ensure lasting peace and prosperity for generations to come. The project is a platform for collaboration to solve pressing social issues surrounding women’s leadership, family and the environment for sustainable peace.

Intercultural and Interfaith Understanding

WFWP USA chapters organize numerous activities to break down prejudices, build reconciliation, and promote healing and authentic bonds amongst diverse groups of people. One of our major activities includes WFWP’s signature project, the Bridge of Peace. The project is a means of reconciliation, an avenue for individuals of conflicting backgrounds to come together in forgiveness for the past with hope and determination for the future.

Interfaith and intercultural learning and mutual understanding is an important philosophy of WFWP. Each year, chapters commemorate special holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, United Nations Day, The National Day of Prayer, and the International Day of Peace by organizing marches and conferences, inviting prominent speakers, organizing community events and promoting a dialogue around principles of peace leadership.

Humanitarian Aid

With the heart of a mother to care for the children of the world, WFWP supporters and volunteers strive to put the “logic of love” into action by gathering financial support for several initiatives to bring hope amongst the most underprivileged.

One area is in the promotion of education and providing opportunities for equal access to quality education. WFWP’s major flagship project, Schools of Africa supports 10 schools in 8 different countries in Africa. Local chapters in the USA organize fundraising events to support school maintenance, supplies, student scholarships, and much more. Other educational projects include support of Lunis Kindergarten in Nepal, the Foster Care program in Cambodia and the Arabic Literacy program for refugee children in Jordan.

WFWP also supports several humanitarian aid projects. The 1% Love Share project was initiated by WFWP Korea to eradicate poverty through donating 1% of your income to those less fortunate across the globe, especially women and children. The project began with a donation to children in North Korea. Now, the program also supports women and children in Haiti, Japan, the Philippines, and the Gaza strip. In recent years, WFWP has also sent support to families of Ebola victims in Liberia, earthquake victims in Nepal, and survivors of hurricanes in Puerto Rico and Texas.
