PRESIDENT'S CORNER SEPTEMBER 2015

Dear Friends,

The month of September seems to be dedicated to Peace, as we celebrate the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2015. Also, Pope Francis is making his tour through the United States at this time to bring a message of family, reconciliation, caring for refugees, and other things.

WFWP USA will also have numerous events going on around the country celebrating family, marriage, reconciliation, and peacemaking. In fact this year's 23rd Anniversary National Assembly topic will be exploring the theme: "LEARN TO LEAD: Women Leading the Way to Sustainable Peace."

Since the word "sustainable" is being used more and more, in so many kinds of discussions, I was asked to share my personal take on the word "sustainable." It also is expressed in our mission statement, "Women working together ... to achieve genuine and sustainable peace under God."

Here are just a few personal thoughts. In order for any action, project, or endeavor to be sustainable, the motivation for it has to spring forth from within the human heart with love. If it does not, then any challenge, obstacle, controversy, or cold shoulder could cause us to throw in the towel and give up. To overcome the odds, we need to use the tools of inner passion, commitment, a higher vision, and selflessness regarding who gets the credit.

Our Co-Founders have emphasized from WFWP's founding that lasting peace is deeply rooted in "the motherly love of living for the sake of others." This indicates that women and mothers -- along with men and fathers -- of parental heart are needed to create the atmosphere where sustainable peace can be built. Particularly women, with their uniquely different approach to solving problems from the inside out, need to be permitted to bring their contributions to the table.

There is so much more to making anything, especially PEACE, sustainable that it is worthwhile to take some time out to mull it over and learn from others. At our National Assembly in October (23-24), we will hear and learn about this from many experienced women and women leaders, and also from one another, as every woman has a wealth of insights to share on this topic!

We also believe that sustainable peace must involve gender balance and therefore must include men, husbands, brothers, and sons, who work together harmoniously with women, wives, sisters, and daughters. Therefore, one breakout session at the Assembly will explore the topic "Why Men Should Support Women and How."

Hope you can join us at the National Assembly. In the meantime, please enjoy this edition of the Logic of Love News!

Happy Fall 2015!

Warmly,
Angelika Selle
