On the beautiful afternoon of March 19, elegant women wearing their favorite hats entered the Washington Times Beech Room to join the celebration of International Women’s Day. This event had been organized by the combined WFWP Chapters of the District of Columbia and Maryland.

The guest speaker, Mrs. Renee Miller Clayton, the Managing Director of Remember Who You Are Enterprises, unveiled her wisdom and dug down deep to bring out the best in us. She said, “Remember who you are.” She emphasized maintaining alignment and integrity in our everyday lives.

She went on to explain that being able to remember your individual conversations with God and your divine value is essential. When she spoke about integrity she asked us what our moral code or compass is. She asked, “How do you line up with what you say, think, and do as you present yourself to the world?” She challenged us to think of the major areas of in our lives, and then ask ourselves, “Where am I?” “How am I presenting myself?” “Am I being sloppy in my thinking or am I doing things differently than what I really believe?” “When you give permission to be yourself, what is the thing you want most to remember?” She pointed out that at times we forget the things we need to remember.

To conclude she told us to give ourselves permission to take time for ourselves. She told us to be willing to take a moment to find out what we are aligned to. She said, “Tell yourself, ‘Remember who you are;’ and you will go beyond fear. You are who you are supposed to be, a beautiful woman with divine value from God.”

Ms. Yesook Catalan, a College freshman, called us to action saying we need to promote WFWP wherever we go and with whomever we speak. Then Ms. Dottie Chicquelo introduced the Pack A Purse/Book Bag Drive Kick-off for Maryland. Attendees had arrived bringing gently used bags with essential items to give to a shelter in Maryland. (The report is already on the WFWP website.)* An Official Citation from Delegate Darryl Barnes, Prince George's County Legislative District 25, was presented to Dottie Chicquelo and Emiko Butler representing WFWP, by Phylicia Henry, Chief of Staff for Delegate Barnes, in recognition of the launching of the “Pack A Purse/Book Bag” Drive.

To honor International Women’s Day, we asked Phylicia Henry to give a long-stem red rose to each woman in attendance. Two young men, David Aihe, 23 and Hanta Catalan, 16, facilitated by carrying the bucket of roses for Ms. Henry. The person who wore the best hat was given a prize.

It was truly a wonderful celebration with lots of entertainment to conclude the afternoon. Elizabeth Aihe, District of Columbia Chairwoman, closed the afternoon and thanked the speaker for her outstanding inspirational words and everyone for coming to the celebration. Without a doubt, everyone in attendance was uplifted, inspired, encouraged, and refreshed.
