Saturday February 26th, in collaboration for over 30 community leaders and organizations, the Women's Federation for World Peace of southern California took part in the SGV Youth Summit at the Garvey Intermediate School in the city of Rosemead. The Youth Summit is meant to unite youth and others to address youth leadership, education, and empowerment. Simultaneous workshops were held to provide resources to support and promote dialogue among our communities' leaders, youth and others to build stronger and healthier communities.

WFWP representatives sponsored an information table and a workshop themed "Healthy Relationships Protect Teens." It was a great chance to network with others who are also servicing but even more so, it was great to interact with the youth and share WFWP resources with them.

The program started with an orientation and welcome where over 600 youth received messages of inspiration from the city council and beautiful reigning junior Princess representing San Gabriel Valley Cities such as Monterey Park, El Monte, South El Monte Temple City, and Rosemead. Guests had a chance to visit book tables set up by different youth-serving organizations, and attend any of the various workshops presented by different organizations.

Ms. Emma Reed volunteered her day to help reach out to our teens and assist WFWP-Southern California Chairwoman Heidi Iseda present a lecture on how "Relationships Protect Teens." The lecture was attended by a small but intimate group of students from a local high school, where students could share their hopes and concerns about relationships and their futures. The lecture covered a range of topics on how to differentiate between mature and immature love, stages of intimacy, setting boundaries, courting and marriage, etc.

Towards the end of the lecture, Iseda felt, “I was the one who learned the most from all that was shared.  These young people energize me to continue to help guide them build good relationships, character, and a moral foundation for their future families.”

Afterwards, some students expressed their intention to invite WFWP to their schools to meet and reach out to more kids.

At the end of the day, WFWP was presented with two certificates of appreciation for their contributions.
