DMV Celebrates Women Peacemakers

In a heartwarming gathering on March 25, 2024, the DC, MD, and VA chapters of WFWP came together in Washington DC to honor the International Day of Women and Women’s History Month. With sixty individuals gracing the occasion, the event radiated with the spirit of celebration and empowerment.

Setting the tone for the evening, Emcee Ain Nomura initiated an interfaith prayer, weaving together the voices of Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism in a harmonious symphony of devotion. A symbolic interfaith water ceremony underscored the diverse paths towards spirituality, with esteemed representatives including Imani Abdullah, Rev. Reginald Hart Sr & Ms. Vinessa Machado, and Mrs. Indira Kumar, adding their voices to the collective prayer.

President of WFWP USA, Kaeleigh Moffitt, ignited the audience with her opening remarks, invoking the visionary words of WFWP founder Mother Moon: “The time has come for the true power of womanhood to save the world.” Moffitt celebrated the essence of womanhood and the invaluable contributions of women peacemakers, setting the stage for a morning of recognition and inspiration.

The stage came alive with vibrant performances from the Youth and Students for Peace Dance Team, infusing the atmosphere with joy and energy before the commencement of the awards ceremony.

The first recipient of the prestigious HerStory Award, Mrs. Sonia Reyes, captivated the audience with her tale of forgiveness and self-discovery. Nominated by Mrs. Concha Marchitelli, Reyes urged everyone to delve deep within themselves, echoing the sentiment that love and joy are found within.

Mrs. Sue Taylor, National Public Affairs Director at the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office, was hailed as the second awardee. Nominated by Ms. Elizabeth Aihe, Taylor shared her remarkable journey of global service for religious freedom, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts in building a better world.

The stage then welcomed Mrs. Tsehaye Habteselasie, an Occupational Therapist and Regional Director at Fox Rehabilitation, nominated by Mr. David Moffitt. Habteselasie’s narrative of resilience and triumph over adversity resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the transformative power of faith and familial support.

Closing the roster of awardees, Magna Faith Krimi, Proprietress of JK Academy Elementary and High School, and Community Builder, shared her awe-inspiring journey from surviving an abusive marriage in Nigeria to becoming an educational beacon in her community. Nominated by Dr. Achille Acolatse, Krimi’s story served as a testament to the unwavering spirit of perseverance and determination.

As the evening drew to a close, Ms. Natasha Dupee, Executive Director of Women’s Policy and Initiatives for the office of Mayor Bowser of Washington D.C., delivered closing remarks, highlighting Mayor Bowser’s commitment to women’s empowerment in the capital. Her impassioned words sparked a call to action, fostering a spirit of collaboration between WFWP and Washington DC.

Amidst an aura of warmth and optimism, the event concluded, leaving each participant inspired to overcome their own obstacles and unite towards a brighter tomorrow. Together, they celebrated the indomitable spirit of women peacemakers, igniting a collective resolve to shape a more inclusive and compassionate world.
