President’s Corner: Be the First to Bloom like the Daffodil

Greetings to all of our readers,

Spring has officially arrived! I’m enjoying the beautiful pops of color that are sprouting from the ground around us, as I’m sure you are as well. The first to bring color to my garden are daffodils each year. They often, surprisingly, pop up when there is still frost on the ground and are a beautiful reminder of the coming season.

Our founder, Mother Moon, often talks about daffodils in her speeches. At the World Summit 2022 speaking to former and current heads of state from around the world, she shared these insights about daffodils:

“I like daffodils, which are the first flowers to blossom in the frozen soil when spring comes. Through the daffodils I am observing how to comfort the heart of our Heavenly Parent, who is a witness to human history full of suffering and pain due to the fall. Though they don’t yet have the power, the daffodils will be the first to break through the frozen soil and tell the world that spring has come.”

I cannot help but smile at the persistence of these funny, little flowers. It seems that just a bit of warmth and sunshine signals it is time to blossom. This notion makes me reflect on myself and whether I can emulate this special nature of the daffodil. Can I be the first to sprout in frozen ground with just a little bit of warmth and sunshine? Can I be brave enough to show my true colors when everyone else is still resting underground? Can I be a daffodil for my family, community and for the world?

In this season, let us take a moment to reflect and recognize the sunshine we are receiving in our life. Although our situations may be less than perfect, I’m certain if we look hard enough we can find enough warmth to be like the daffodils and spring up through the frozen soil. If you find yourself struggling to step out into the world above the ground, remember that it is the daffodils who lead the way for others who will soon follow after.

Let us be the daffodils the world so desperately needs and model the way forward for our families and communities. Together we can celebrate the sunshine and bring bright color to the world.

Sincerely,

Kaeleigh Moffitt
