Interfaith Breakfast Hosted by WFWP Canada on Women Faith and Family

On October 14, 2023, the Women's Federation for World Peace Canada hosted an interfaith breakfast meeting in Toronto under the theme "Women, Faith & Family: Building a Prosperous Nation." The event saw nearly 70 participants, including:

  • Nala Moorthy, Facilitator, Multicultural Settlement and Education

  • Rev. Jean Henry, a counselor and therapist practicing under the supervision of the Registered Psychological Association of Ontario

  • Khalilah Megan Campbell, President of Mississauga Monarch Lions Club, a poet, and recipient of the Merit and Golden Poet Awards and the Chairman’s Leadership Award

Lilly Tadin, President of WFWP Canada, welcomed women of faith from diverse religious backgrounds. The event also witnessed the participation of some husbands and community leaders who came to show their support for initiatives concentrating on working together and sharing common values and principles.

The speakers shared insights from their faith's teachings and guiding principles while emphasizing the role of women within the family and its impact on the community and nation.

Rev. Jean Henry offered the Christian perspective as a family, youth, and marriage counselor. She highlighted the importance of men and women working together and shared her personal journey of coming to Canada as a foreign worker. She expressed gratitude to her supervisor, who recognized her potential and supported her in furthering her education, ultimately enabling her to open new doors. She now pays it forward as a family counselor in her community.

Nala Moorthy shared a Hindu perspective, emphasizing that building a prosperous, peaceful, and safe future begins at home. She stressed that a family is primarily a place of protection, safety, and security, shaping the values that define conduct and behavior. Nala highlighted the pivotal role of mothers in families, blessed with a divine instinct to protect children in any challenging environment.

Eveline Stewart, Coordinator and Board Member of WFWP Canada, discussed the significance of faiths and traditions in providing guiding principles for successful marriages, families, and communities. She emphasized that the family serves as the foundation for acquiring emotional, psychological, and social competencies, nurturing individuals, spouses, and parents who contribute to a better and more harmonious society and nation. Recognizing and supporting the family as the most basic unit of human relationships is vital.

The event featured the presentation of the GWPN Award to Khalilah Megan Campbell, President of Mississauga Monarch Lions Club, and Yvette Shanks for her years of dedicated service in promoting various initiatives related to human rights and substance abuse.

Additionally, Lilly Tadin received an award from the Monarch Lions Club and was made an honorary member of the club.

As we reflect on this gathering, it becomes evident that by coming together, sharing our wisdom, and honoring the pivotal role of women within our families and societies, we can collectively work towards building a more prosperous and harmonious nation. This event served as a beacon of hope and unity, reminding us that, regardless of our backgrounds, we all play a vital part in the shared endeavor of creating a better world.
