A Ray of Hope for Refugee Children in Jordan: WFWP Arabic Literacy Project

Jordan is currently one of the largest refugee-hosting countries in the world, and it is the children that are particularly vulnerable and in need of support. The growing influx of refugees has strained the public school system, with overcrowded classrooms and high drop-out rates, and many children are falling behind. With a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of these children and give them hope for a better future, WFWP Jordan President Fusayo Irikura launched the Arabic Literacy Project in 2016. She has made it her personal mission to provide refugee children aged 8 to 15 with opportunities to receive educational support and develop a good character in a safe and loving environment. Throughout the month of October, WFWP USA ran a fundraising campaign to support the Arabic Literary Project, and we are proud to report that we were able to send $7,200 to Jordan.

Below is an excerpt from a letter from Fusayo dated Dec 17, 2021.

Dear WFWP USA,

Much gratitude is extended to WFWP USA for your kind donation of $7,200 to WFWP Jordan.

The donation will be used for the program to educate the needy children in Rusaifa in literacy and character education.

We will also be able to support our excellent volunteer teachers, who have been tirelessly serving and teaching the children for many years at the WFWP center.

Recently we started a football (Soccer) team. We began it as PLAY FOOTBALL MAKE PEACE, and our name of teams is “Dream come True”.

Due to the harsh conditions here, many of our children will be entering the workforce in two to three years as they are not able to study at high school. Therefore we have to give them good opportunities to build the foundation of their lives while they are students.

We are really very grateful for your generosity.

Thank you very much.
