President’s Corner: Giving Thanks to Mother Earth

Dear friends and families,

Greetings in this season of Thanksgiving!

As we prepare to commemorate one of the most beautiful traditional holidays in America, where families come together in love to share a meal together, I would like to direct our attention to our Native brothers and sisters, who populated this beautiful land first, before everyone else's arrival. Why do I say that? Because they deserve a full measure of gratitude and a big thank you, since without them the first settlers would not have survived!

Let us therefore take a moment, even as we meet via Zoom with family and loved ones (or get together in person), to appreciate our Native brothers and sisters and also their spirituality and their love for Mother Earth! Now more than ever, this love calls for our attention.

The reason for paying attention to our Mother Earth is that she is currently suffering and under duress from many directions. We see this in the ongoing floods, wildfires and other natural disasters around the world. The Earth is rebelling, and if we don't take care of it and preserve it, the balance of nature will be shaken irreversibly, causing all life on Earth to suffer, including our own. However, as Mother Moon said in a speech earlier this year to heads of state, religious luminaries, leaders from all sectors of society, and youth representatives: IT IS NOT TOO LATE … IF we can unite to preserve the environment's integrity!

For the sake of inspiration, enlightenment and greater awareness on this special holiday, I would like to share a brief excerpt from her speech (see below) and also add an audio recording from our recent interfaith women's prayer circle, where you will hear voices of mothers from around the nation who shared their hearts and reflections centering on this quote (listen to the recording here).

I hope these reflections will move our hearts and also move us to action to not only save our planet, but most of all, to respect and appreciate the hearts and souls of one another, as we are all God's beloved children.

Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving 2020!

Founder's Address Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon at the World Summit on February 4, 2020, on "Becoming God's Children":

"I would like to say this: For the past 6,000 years, humanity has existed almost like orphans, parentless and feeling lost. Humans have been living in a self-centered way, so they could not see the whole, thereby engendering many problems. Today’s climate issue is clearly one of these problems. If we leave this situation as it is, what is going to happen? The Earth will have no future. Yet, even now it is not too late. If we can become one in attending our Heavenly Parent, if we can ask for His wisdom and enable Him to work, we can restore the Earth to its pristine beauty when God first created it. Let us ask God how we can do this. Our Heavenly Parent, please guide us and we will do as you say. I wish to encourage this kind of movement!"
