Norma Guevara

Mrs. Norma Alicia Rubio Guevara is a Woman of Courage, committed community volunteer and gifted artist. Born in Mexico, she moved to the United States to marry her husband, where they have raised five children. When her children were in elementary school, she saw a need for parents to be involved and so she began to volunteer her time and talent as an artist, creating and developing art lessons to support the students in their reading comprehension lessons. She was also active in the PTA and received much recognition for her work in the school. In 1998, Mrs. Guevara and her husband Fernando were nominated by their children’s school as Parents of the Year for the National Parents Day Celebration and the City Council also awarded them with a certificate of recognition. Mrs. Guevara is proud to be involved in Padres Unidos Para Nuevo Escuelas (Parents United for New Schools), a grassroots parent group that advocated building new schools in the City of South Gate. Together with other parents, they were able to build ten new schools in the city to address the overcrowding issue over a period of ten years. Mrs. Guevara was awarded the Woman of Courage Award for her activist activities in the community in 2016. As a woman of deep faith, Mrs. Guevara desires to love others by sharing her talents wherever she can.
