AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Meeting : January 10, 2026 | AMVETS West O‘ahu Center
WFWP members Doris Edwards, Sharon Beasley-Teague, Yuriko Harding, Marie-Françoise (Mimi) Mitchell, and Donna Shaver—also members of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary-001—attended the first official meeting of 2026.
Officers appointed for the 2026 term include Doris Edwards (Treasurer), Mimi Mitchell (Sergeant-at-Arms), and Sharon Beasley-Teague (Chaplain). Outgoing President Yuriko Harding will serve as Board Advisor. Officer inauguration is scheduled for February 7, 2026, at Kapilina Recreation Center.
The Wall That Heals : January 14–19, 2026 | UH West O‘ahu
WFWP and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary-001 members volunteered at The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial honoring 58,281 fallen service members, including 278 from Hawai‘i.
The opening ceremony on January 14 featured remarks by Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Director Kelly McKeague. The closing ceremony on January 19 (MLK Day) included the release of 1,000 monarch butterflies, final remarks by AMVETS National Commander Paul Shipley, and the playing of TAPS.
Volunteer Reflections
Dr. Sharon Beasley-Teague
I volunteered at the Mobile Education Center, which houses historical timelines, personal artifacts, and tributes honoring Vietnam veterans. As the wife of a Vietnam-era serviceman, this experience offered profound insight into the struggles veterans faced upon returning home—often without recognition or gratitude. I am deeply grateful to support The Wall That Heals and to stand with veterans and their families as healing continues.

Visiting The Wall That Heals was deeply meaningful to us, as Jim’s cousin served in Vietnam. Though he returned home, the trauma endured. During our visit, an unexpected spiritual moment occurred as veterans thanked us for our “service,” reminding us of the young lives lost and the long-overdue recognition now being given. We felt honored to represent our family members and all who sacrificed.
Award Presentation: January 19, 2026
WFWP and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary members Doris Edwards and Yuriko Harding received the AMVETS Department of Hawai‘i Outstanding Leadership Award at a luncheon with National Commander Paul Shipley. The award was dedicated to Heavenly Parent and True Parents, recognizing the collective efforts and continued partnership between WFWP and AMVETS.
