WFWP dancers join others to support women's equality and status worldwide

As a response to the continued abuse of women in the world, a group of mainly women began a movement, "One Billion Rising." On the evening of February 14, the WFWP Minnesota Chapter joined in the One Billion Rising event at the Powderhorn Park Community Center in Minneapolis to support women's equality and status in the world.

The event featured six dances from different communities and women's groups in the area. WFWP members Mrs. Erie Pehling, Mrs. Sachiko Johnson, and Mrs. Noriko Pearson

WFWP dancers join us others to support women's equality and status worldwide performed a beautiful Japanese dance called the Flower Hat Dance.

WFWP also set up an information booth for people to learn about WFWP's mission, goals, and activities. People could sign up to get emails and notifications about our local events. Ten people signed up and we were able to introduce them to our website and WFWP local activities.

Mrs. Deepa Ram-Souza, a WFWP guest speaker on February 15, was also there. She and her students performed the fusion dance of Indian and Tribal belly dances. It was she who had suggested that WFWP perform a dance as well. She connected us with the organizer of the program, Professor Ankita Deka, her friend and a professor at the University of Minnesota, who included us in the program.

We invited all the attendees to join us in the Bridge of Peace Ceremony, which we will have on April 26.
