Las Vegas

On June 2 and 3, WFWP Las Vegas joined the festivities of the Filipino community for the Las Vegas 4th Annual Fiesta Filipino "Community of One" to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day (actual date: June 12). In previous celebrations, the event was held for one day only, in a local park. Due to the immense success of those events, a passion was ignited in the community, and last year the organizers planned a two-day event, which built momentum for the fantastic celebration held this year at the Boulevard Mall West parking area along Maryland Parkway. Twenty thousand people were expected to pass through over the weekend. The organizers—NaFFAA (National Federation of Filipino American Associations) is the largest Filipino organization here in Nevada. Through the hard work, dedication and commitment to…
WFWP members and supporters enjoyed a festive dinner/dance fundraiser hosted by Lorna Todd, WFWP co-chairwoman in Las Vegas, and her husband Thomas, at the Italian-American Club on Saturday, July 21. Approximately 50 guests attended and enjoyed authentic Italian food before the dance began. After dinner, guests adjourned to the dance venue, where desserts of tiramisu and cannoli were served, and enjoyed the magic show of Ms. Georgette, a magician for 30-odd years who has performed in Las Vegas for the past six years with her sidekick comedian and impersonator Tommy Ferante. Both Ms. Georgette and Mr. Ferante perform every Wednesday at the Amazing Clown here in Las Vegas. Guests enjoyed music from the 70s, 80s and 90s, provided by the Filipino group JAS (Jun, Au and Sonny) Band. Au, the…
WFWP Las Vegas is excited to announce the launch of a program designed to encourage young people to make a commitment to abstinence and to living a life of good character. WFWP's Clean Slate Program is an educational curriculum emphasizing abstinence and character development. It is headed by Heidi Iseda and is being promoted in Las Vegas. There are three modules: The Facts of Life, Reclaiming My Purity, and Character Education & Leadership Skill Development. This curriculum is revised and is being packaged together to sell to local businesses in town for fundraising. It is being brought to schools, churches, and outreach programs for young people who need moral guidance in Las Vegas and around the country.
The social disease of human trafficking is a very difficult subject for mothers to think about, let alone come to a gathering where this subject is the central topic of discussion.  Very few mothers want to know about the prostitution of women and children, or that forced labor exists in the neighborhoods of America.  That is, unless they have been touched by it or someone they love has been subjected to it, or there is a calling from their higher minds to find out about it.   Twenty such women gathered Saturday, March 10 in Las Vegas, at a WFWP meeting to learn about local human trafficking, and to listen to another mother, Joanna Anderson, who at one time as a college student found herself in the streets of Las Vegas.…

Kick-off Appreciation Dinner

November 21st, 2011
WFWP Las Vegas chapter had its kick-off Appreciation Dinner Night on November 21st in Las Vegas. A total of 58 people attended, including seven guests and 10 men. The emcee for the evening was Hope Igarashi and the entire event was planned by Las Vegas chairwoman, Lorna Todd. Based on the positive feedback, it was a very successful evening that touched the hearts of the guests. District chairwoman, Heidi Iseda, gave a presentation introducing WFWP and its accomplishments. Following the presentation were a membership drive, raffle drawings and some musical entertainment. A Filipino professional singer, Gloria Papin, sang in acapella beautifully. Papin usually charges quite a lot for every gig. However, she attended the event anyway and after hearing Heidi's presentation about WFWP, she felt inspired to sing a song…
